Do I need to learn Fidel?
Learning Fidäl, the Tigrinya alphabet, isn’t strictly required to speak the language, but it is highly recommended. It lets you read signs, menus, messages and learning materials, and reinforces pronunciation.
Is the Tigrinya alphabet the same as Amharic’s?
Tigrinya and Amharic both use the Ge’ez script, so many characters look similar or identical. However, each language uses some unique characters and sounds, so knowing one script gives you a head start but not full literacy in the other.
